Forget the frumpy silhouette, it

Some might bemoan the frumpy silhouette of the classic padded jacket but the royals have given it a stamp of approval.

It can be worn long, as Princess Charlene  showed us in Burberry just a few days ago at a charity football match.

Or it can be embellished with crystals by Blumarine for Princess Madeleine.

Or it can be bold and bright like Princess Kate’s red jacket from Perfect Moment.

The Princess of Wales is a true trendsetter when it comes to the padded coat - or puffer as it is generally known.

Far from boring, basic and black, the royal prefers a bold red ski jacket for royal engagements, choosing a quilted version from Perfect Moment version.

Lasting her many seasons, it continues to be her coat of choice for outdoor track events, football kickabouts and visits to Christmas tree farms.

While celebrating her 46th birthday in Monaco, Princess Charlene wrapped up well and paired her colours with her daughter Princess Gabriella in a Maxmara gilet.

Queen Mary is a fan of Moncler when it comes to puffer coats, owning seven different padded styles.
